흥겨운 리듬의 연속, 이국적인 멜로디의 등장, 신나게 들썩이며 하나되는 시간
보컬, 색소폰, 베이스, 트럼펫, 드럼, 퍼커션, 키보드로 구성된 쿼터 투 아프리카는 이름에 아프리카가 들어가지만, 엄연히 이스라엘의 밴드다. 이들은 아랍의 마캄 음악부터 아프리카 리듬까지 다루며 이스라엘과 아랍, 아프리카로 이어지는 길목을 음악적으로 자연스럽게 잇는 작업을 담아낸다. 거기에 재즈와 훵크를 포함해 다양한 뿌리를 지니고 있으며, 이들은 흥겹고 신나는 무대를 지향한다. 이러한 행보에 걸맞게 밴드는 사랑과 화합, 우정을 소중히 여기며 그러한 모토에 맞게 활동하고 있다. 하지만 이들이 의미와 흥만으로 승부를 하는 것은 아니다. 다양한 음악을 자연스럽게 녹여내는 것은 그만큼의 이해와 관심이 필요하며, 의미만큼 음악도 설득력이 있어야 한다. 쿼터 투 아프리카는 실력과 진심이 모두 통하는 밴드다. 민속적인 리듬에 집중하다가도 묵직한 리듬을 가진 힙합, R&B, 전자음악과 같은 스타일을 들려주기도 하고, 토속 음악의 멜로디를 재즈적인 연주로 녹여내기도 한다. 이스라엘이라는 지역이 가진 특수성을 생각하면 밴드의 존재 자체가 평화를 지향하고 함께 춤을 추자는 의미를 담고 있어 더욱 시사하는 바가 크다.

Quarter to Africa (Q2A) is a multi-cultural roots ensemble, combining electric Oud grooves, saxophone, trumpet, electric guitar, bass, drums, percussion, synthesizer and vocals. Its music creates an uplifting collage, fusing traditional Arabic “Makam” scales with African rhythms, jazz and funk.
One of Israeli uprising bands for the last 2 years, performing constantly, headlining many festivals and major events, including the Israeli film festival, the International Red sea Jazz Festival, international Jerusalem Festival, Tel Aviv jazz festival and much more. Q2A collaborated with top artists such as Ester Rada, Reef Cohen, Yossi fine, and Avishai Cohen (as rhythm section for his new JAZZ FREE project)
Into the creative process, Q2A weaves a philosophy built on three main principles: LOVE, UNITY & FRIENDSHIP. The result is a unique sound, which sets a fertile ground for fluid movement between composition and improvisation, upbeat and downtempo, complicated and simple. You will not be able to sit still.
