재즈의 열정을 그대 품에, 밍옌 세이 & 심비오시스 트리오
밍옌 세이 & 심비오시스 트리오는 대만 색소포니스트 밍옌 세이가 이끄는 그룹으로, 퀄텟이 아닌 색소폰+피아노 트리오로 이루어져 있다. 심비오시스는 ‘공생’을 의미한다. 밍옌 세이는 벨기에의 브뤼셀 로열 콘서바토리에서 공부했으며 2012년 타이중 국제 색소폰 경연대회에서 우승했다. 2011년부터 800회 이상의 공연을 선보이는 등 대만에서 가장 활동적인 색소포니스트 중 한명으로 손꼽힌다. 2014년 첫 앨범 [Firry Path]을 발표해 호평을 받았다.
재즈팬들에게는 마이크 챙으로 알려진 Tsengyi Tseng은 다국적 밴드 올빗 폭스(Orbit Folks)에서 활동하며 현대적인 사운드와 즉흥연주로 실력을 인정받는 피아니스트다. 대만 출신으로 브뤼셀 로열 콘서바토리에서 공부했다. 베이시스트 Fan Hsu 역시 세션과 리더를 넘나드는 젊은 대만 연주자다. 네덜란드 출신인 드러머 Sebastiaan Kaptein은 멤버들보다 연장자로 밴드의 젊고 강한 사운드에 연륜을 더한다.
한국을 비롯한 아시아에는 수많은 재즈 밴드와 연주자가 있지만 우리에겐 많이 알려져 있지 않다. 대만의 젊은 연주자들로 이루어진 밍옌 세이 & 심비오시스 트리오는 아시아 재즈의 가능성을 보여주는 열정적인 무대를 선사할 것이다.

Minyen Hsieh is a highly regarded, award-winning Taiwanese saxophonist. The Taipei native, born in 1981, started to perform professionally at the age of 19, and studied at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Brussels. There he studied with John Ruocco and Jeroen Van Herzeele. His strong improvisation skills and rich tone has made him a coveted player in several genres varying from jazz, rock, hip-hop, electronic to avant-garde. Outside of Taiwan, Minyen has also been welcomed to grace stages through Japan, China, HK, Macau, Malaysia and more. He won the Taichung Saxophone Competition in 2012, and regularly contributes to various jazz, pop and experimental projects in Taiwan. His most recent recording is the well-received, best-selling “Firry Path” (2014).
Symbiosis Trio is leading by the most acclaimed jazz pianist now in Taiwan, Tsengyi Tseng with bassist Fan Hsu and Dutch Japan-based drummer Sebastiaan Kaptein.
With the richness of compositions and the beautiful interpretations, all the concerts they made were always a unique experience to the audiences. In 2013, they released their first album “Symbiosis Trio” has received “the best album of the year” and “the best composition of the year” from the 25th Golden Melody Award. Their newest album “Chromatics” is also nominated for the best instrumental recording album in 2017.
