한국 재즈의 미래를 엿보다, 라이징스타 2017
월간 재즈피플은 매년 활발하게 활동하는 한국 재즈의 신예 주역들을 대상으로 ‘라이징스타(Rising Star)’를 선정한다. 2008년에 시작해 올해로 8회를 맞는 라이징스타는 클럽 연주와 앨범 발표 외에 자신을 드러낼 기회가 많지 않은 국내 재즈씬에서 젊고 실력 있는 연주자들을 소개하는 통로가 되고 있다. 선정 방식은 만 30세 이하 연주자에 한해 악기 당 한 명의 연주자를 선정하며, 월간 재즈피플 편집부와 재즈 씬에서 연주하고 있는 선배들의 추천을 다방면으로 듣고 종합한다.
올해 라이징스타 2017은 음악에 이야기를 담아내고 기승전결이 뚜렷한 솔로 연주를 지향하는 피아니스트 신아람, 뛰어난 스윙 감각을 갖고 있는 전천후 베이시스트 이동민, 쾌활한 성격과 힘 있는 드러밍으로 동료 음악인들의 사랑을 독차지하며 ‘로다운30’의 드러머로도 활약중인 최병준, 대학교 재학 중 첫 앨범을 발표하며 이른 나이에 씬에 데뷔한 될 성 부른 기타리스트 이주찬, 고교 관악부 활동을 시작으로 첫 리더작을 내고 현재는 재주소년, 이스턴모스트 등 다양한 장르에서 활동중인 트럼페터 박종상이 바로 그 주인공들이다. 한국 재즈의 미래를 보고 싶다면, 쾌활한 성격과 넓은 음악적 스펙트럼을 바탕으로 멋진 앙상블을 들려줄 ‘라이징스타 2017’ 의 무대를 놓치지 말자.
Meet future Korean jazz, Rising Star 2017
Every year, monthly magazine Jazzpeople chooses ‘Rising Star’, rookie jazz musicians who actively perform in the Korean jazz scene. Started in 2008, 8th this year, ‘Rising Star’ is becoming the channel introducing young and talented jazz musicians who have few chances to present themselves in the Korean jazz scene except club performances and album release. Rising Stars are selected one musician for each instrument under 30 years old, evaluated with comments of senior jazz musicians and editors of Jazzpeople.
This year’s Rising Star 2017 is consist of pianist Ahram Shim, delivering story with music and aiming well-organized solo performance, all-weather bassist Dongmin Lee, having talented swing sense, drummer Byungjun Choi, having cheerful characteristic, powerful drumming, loved by friends musicians, and drummer at ‘Low Down 30’, guitarist Juchan Lee, released his first album during college years and debut in young age, and trumpeter Jongsang Park, released his first leader music piece during performed at his high school orchestra and currently performs at various genre such as Jaeju Sonyun and Eastern Most.
