특유의 맑은 음색으로 다채로운 음악을 들려주다, 재즈보컬리스트 이민정
자라섬국제재즈페스티벌은 최근 들어 해외에 거주하며 활발히 활동중인 한국 연주자를 초청하여 자라섬 무대에서의 공연기회를 지원하고, 그들의 음악을 소개하고 있다. 올해 재즈큐브 무대의 재즈보컬리스트 이민정은 이 기획의 일환으로 초청된 아티스트로, 파리의 재즈 명문 I.A.C.P.와 CIM에서 수학하고, 부르라렌 국립음악원에서 재즈 석사 학위를, 까샹 국립음악원에서 성악 석사 학위를 획득, 2003년부터는 ‘이민정 쿼텟’ 으로 파리 유수의 재즈바에서 연주하며 정기적인 한국투어공연도 가지는 등 활발한 활동을 펼치고 있다.
개성 있는 자작곡들과 더불어 다양한 장르의 음악을 재즈로 편곡하여 파리에서 활동중인 그녀는 프랑스에서 전공한 성악 발성 테크닉을 재즈에 적용하여 특유의 맑은 음색으로 저음부터 고음까지의 영역대를 모두 소화해내는 아티스트이기도 하다.
2014년에는 첫 앨범 <Turquoise>를 발매 하였는데, 이민정 퀄텟의 프랑스 활동 멤버인 기타리스트 안드레아 깜빠뇰로(Andrea Campagnolo), 베이시스트 켄타로 스즈키(Kentaro Suzuki), 드러머 웨슬레 바르베로(Wesley Barbe)가 함께 했다. 이 음반은 2005년부터 그녀가 작곡한 곡들을 모은 것으로, 한국 전통음악에서부터 오리엔탈 선율, 남태평양의 정취까지 다양한 세계를 담고 있다. 최근에는 2018년에 발매될 두 번째 음반 <장미빛 인생>을 한창 준비중에 있으며, 프랑스 현지에서는 모교인 CIM의 보컬 및 시창 교수이자 구생빌 시립음악원의 성악 교수로 재직하며 후진양성에도 힘쓰고 있다.
올해 자라섬 무대에서는 이민정 쿼텟의 한국 멤버인 피아니스트 김가온, 베이시스트 김인영, 드러머 이도헌이 함께 하며 +1에 해당되는 특별게스트 재즈플룻티스트 고유진도 함께 한다.
10월 자라섬의 밤하늘을 가득 채울 이민정 쿼텟, 이들의 다채로운 음악을 기대해보자.
Presenting various music with her unique clear voice, jazz vocalist Minjung Lee
Recently Jarasum International Jazz Festival invites Korean musicians living in and actively performing in other countries, gives them opportunities to perform at Jarasum stages, and introduces their music. This year, jazz vocalist Minjung Lee of Jazz Cube stage is a part of this project. Lee studied at the famous I.A.C.P. and CIM in Paris, earned Master’s degree in jazz at the Bourg-la-Reine National Academy of Music and Master’s degree in vocal at the Cachan National Academy of Music.
Since 2003, performing actively as ‘Minjung Lee Quartet’ at well-known jazz bars in Paris and regularly has concert tours in Korea. With characteristic of her own music and various genre music pieces arranged as jazz, Lee performs her music in Paris using her vocal major applying to jazz from low to high range of unique clear voice.
In 2014, she released her first album <Turquoise> with her France working members, guitarist Andrea Campagnolo, bassist Kentaro Suzuki, and drummer Wesley Barbe. This album contains music pieces she has been working on from 2005, including various music world from traditional Korean music, oriental tunes, to moods of South Pacific. Recently, Lee is working on her second album <Rosy Life>, also working as a professor in vocal at her graduated school CIM and Goussainville City Academy of Music, educating next generation.
This year in Jarasum, Minjung Lee Quartet’s Korean members, pianist Kim Kaon, bassist Inyoung Kim, and drummer Doheon Lee, will be together. Also, special guest as +1, jazz flutist Youjin Ko, will perform with the quartet. Let’s wait for Minjung Lee Quartet’s music that will fill the night sky of Jarasum in October with their music.
