김반장이 이끄는 레게/소울&휭크밴드 ‘김반장과 윈디시티’는 2004년 여름에 결성되어 한국에서 소울,훵크,레게 음악을 최전방에서 이끌어온 팀으로, 현재까지 두 장의 정규앨범과 다수의 미니앨범을 발표하였다.
레게(reggae), 덥(dub)을 중심으로 한국의 전통장단, 아프리카 음악을 비롯하여 소울, 휭크, 살사, 라틴 등에 뿌리를 둔 음악에 대한 존경과 열정으로 매번 새로운 시도를 하는 독창적인 밴드이기도 하다. 최근에는 3기 멤버들로 정비를 마쳤으며, 이들과 함께 5년 만에 신곡을 발표하였다. 새 신곡 ‘Mek me hot'과 'Ye Ye Ye' 은 그 동안 서울과 전국 여러 곳을 다니며 꾸준한 연주활동을 통해 느낀 경험과 에너지를 담은 곡이다.
이들은 단순히 신나는 음악이 아닌, 굉장히 차분하고 딥한 음악에도 춤출 수 있는 것처럼 자연스럽게 춤출 수 있는 댄스 뮤직을 만드는 것이 목표라고 이야기한다. 3기 멤버로는 베이스 김재호, 기타 박상곤, 건반 허아민, 퍼커션 라국산이 함께 하며 드럼과 보컬은 김반장이 담당한다. 올해 자라섬 파티스테이지에서는 유유자적 흘러가는 강물처럼 김반장과 윈디시티 음악에 자연스레 몸을 맡겨보자.
Leading by KIMBANJANG, ‘KIMBANJANG & WINDICITY’ was founded in summer, 2004, released two regular albums and various mini-albums leading soul, funk, and reggae genres in Korea. Based on reggae and dub, with respect and passion for traditional Korean rhythm, African music, soul, funk, salsa, latin and more, the team tries a new attempt every time. Recently, the team reorganized with third sets of members, released new music after 5 years of break. The new music pieces ‘Mek me hot’ and ‘Ye Ye Ye’ contain their feeling of experiences and energy performing in Seoul and other cities. They say their goal of making music is to create naturally danceable music, which is not simply fast or joyful music but calm and deep music. The third sets of members are bassist Jae Ho Kim, guitarist Sang Gwon Park, keyboardist Ah Min Heo, and percussionist Raguksan with drummer and vocal Kimbanjang. Let’s naturally rely on our body to the music of Kimbanjang & Windycity like floating over the water.
