2017 빅밴드 배틀은 올해 처음 시도되는 프로젝트로, 두 개의 빅밴드를 선정하여 배틀 형식 으로 진행하는 공연이다. 올해는 작년 빅밴드 시리즈에 참여한 한양대학교 재즈 빅밴드와 동아방송예술대학교 재즈 오케스트라가 함께 한다. 한 무대 위에 두 빅밴드가 동시에 올라가 각 레퍼토리별 혹은 각 악기별로 서로 연주 배틀을 펼치며 긴장감과 재미를 안겨다 줄 것이다. 또, 두 개 밴드가 함께 연주하는 레퍼토리들도 있어 그 어느 때 보다도 화려하고 풍성한 빅밴드 사운드를 들을 수 있는 기회가 될 것이다.

참여빅밴드

1. 한양대학교 재즈 빅밴드 HANYANG UNIVERSITY JAZZ BIG BAND
2013년에 결성된 ‘한양대학교 재즈 빅밴드’는 색소폰 5명, 트럼펫 5명, 트롬본 2명, 리듬섹션 4명으로 구성된 16인조 밴드로 색소폰 연주자 김지석이 지도교수로 활동중이다. 2013년 10월, ‘자라섬국제재즈페스티벌’ 공연을 시작으로 대학교 축제 및 정기적인 재즈 클럽 공연 등 크고 작은 학내 외 공연으로 꾸준히 실력을 닦아왔으며, 중국과 일본에서 초청을 받아 국제무대에 서기도 하였다.

2. 동아방송예술대학교 재즈 오케스트라 DIMA Jazz Orchestra
2012년 창단한 동아방송예술대학교 재즈 오케스트라는 재즈클럽 공연 및 각종 행사 등 다양한 활동을 펼쳐왔다. 현재는 오재철 라지앙상블 리더인 오재철의 편곡과 지도 아래 새로운 팀 사운드의 방향을 모색하며 한층 더 발전된 모습을 꾀하고 있다. 동아방송예술대학교 재즈 오케스트라는 일반적인 빅밴드와는 달리 플룻, 소프라노 색소폰 등 다양한 악기구성으로 특별한 음색의 텍스쳐를 지니는 한편, 뛰어난 리듬섹션의 연주가 어우러져 완성도 높은 재즈 오케스트라의 사운드를 들려준다.
2017 Big Band Battle is the first time event, two big bands are chosen to battle each other, performing their music. This year, Hanyang University Jazz Big Band and DIMA Jazz Orchestra, participants of last year’s Big Band Series, are joining for the battle this year. The two big bands will be performing together on one stage, battling for playing music of each instrument and repertoire, giving you unique tension and enjoyment. Also, a repertoire performed by two big bands together will provide full and splendid big band sounds.


Participating Bands

1. HANYANG UNIVERSITY JAZZ BIG BAND
Founded in 2013, Hanyang University Jazz Big band is consist of 16 artists – 5 saxophones, 5 trumpets, 2 trombones, and 4 rhythm section members – the saxophonist Jee seok Kim as a directing professor. Starting October 2013 JIJF performance, the big band has built its career as performing regularly in jazz clubs and universities, also invited to China and Japan for the international stage.

2. DIMA Jazz Orchestra
Founded in 2012, DIMA Jazz Orchestra has performed jazz club performances and various events. Currently, under the leader of Oh Jae Cheol Ensemble, Oh Jae Cheol’s rearrangement and directing, seeking the direction of team’s new sound and enhanced band for the future. DIMA Jazz Orchestra differs from regular big bands – various musical instruments such as flute and soprano saxophone compose unique musical sound texture and high technique rhythm section performances will play high-quality jazz orchestra sounds.
