하드 밥 재즈 퀸텟의 정수를 보여주다, 진킴 더 재즈유닛
진킴 더 재즈유닛 (Jin Kim The Jazz Unit)은 트럼페터 진킴을 주축으로 하여 테너 색소폰, 어쿠스틱 베이스, 피아노, 드럼으로 이루어진 한국 최초의 본격적인 하드 밥 재즈 퀸텟이다. 탄탄한 리듬과 치밀한 앙상블로 정통 하드 밥 사운드를 들려주며, 아트 블레이키와 재즈 메신저즈, 디지 길레스피, 클리포드 브라운-맥스 로치, 마일즈 데이비스, 리 모건, 우디 쇼와 같은 정통 하드 밥 퀸텟의 유산을 이어가고 있다.
지난 5년간 300회 이상의 공연을 하며 탄탄한 팀워크를 형성하였으며, EBS 스페이스 공감, Naver 온스테이지, 유지원의 옥탑방 라디오 등 다양한 음악프로에 초청되기도 하였다.
2015년 8월 발표한 첫 데뷔앨범 <JIN KIM The JAZZ UNIT>은 수록곡 8곡 중 7곡을 진킴이 직접 작, 편곡하였으며, 높은 완성도로 평단의 호평을 받았다. 또, 2015 벅스뮤직 어워드와 음악웹진 이명에서 올해의 재즈 음반으로 선정되었으며, 2015 한국대중음악상 올해의 재즈 앨범 부문 수상후보에 오르기도 하였다.
이번 자라섬 공연에서는 1집과 더불어 현재 준비중인 2집 앨범의 수록곡과 재즈 스탠다드 넘버들을 들려줄 예정이다. 화려한 테크닉과 거센 에너지의 하드 밥을 바탕으로 왈츠, 보사노바, 스윙, 그리고 펑크한 블루스의 유연하고도 화려한 연주를 만끽할 수 있을 것이다.
Original hard bop jazz quintet, Jin Kim The Jazz Unit
Trumpeter Jin Kim as a center, Jin Kim The Jazz Unit, the first original hard bop jazz quintet, was organized with tenor saxophone, acoustic bass, piano and drum.
With strong rhythm and meticulous ensemble, the quintet presents original hard bop sound, continuing hard bop jazz legacy of Art Blakey, Jazz Messengers, Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown&Max Roach, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, and Woody Shaw.
During last 5 years, the quintet performed over 300 times, creating strong teamwork. Also, the Unit was invited to various music programs such as EBS Space, Naver Onstage, and Jiwon Yoo’s Rooftop Radio. Their first debut album released in August 2015 <JIN KIM The JAZZ UNIT>’s 7 music pieces out of 8 was composed by Jin Kim, praised with a high degree of completion by critics.
Also, the album was selected as Year’s Jazz Album at Bugs Music Award and Music Webzine Diffsound(‘E-myeong’ in Korean) in 2015, and was nominated as 2015 Korea Pop Music, Jazz Album part.
This year at Jarasum stage, the team will play the music from their first and working the second album, the jazz standard numbers. Based on splendid techniques and strong energy hard bop, you can feel flexibility and fancy performance of waltz, bossa nova, swing, and funky-blues.
