이미 깊이 있는, 그러나 여전히 새로운 것을 시도하는 연주자
2000년대 중반에 블루 노트(Blue Note)에서 두 장의 앨범을, 그리고 최근 버브(Verve)에서 두 장의 앨범을 발표한 바 있는 트럼펫 연주자 파브리치오 보소는 많은 위대한 음악가들이 그랬듯 영재로 통했다. 5살 때부터 악기를 배우기 시작한 그는 이른 나이에 일찍 학교를 졸업했지만, 이후 꾸준히 배움을 유지했다. 26살이 되던 2000년, 밴드 리더로서 첫 앨범인 <Fast Flight>을 발표했다. 그의 음악은 포스트 밥, 하드 밥 스타일로 대표될 수 있으나 이후 열린 마음으로 랩 등 다양한 장르의 음악과 교류했다. 2007년에는 다이앤 리브스(Dianne Reeves)가 참여한 <You’ve Changed>라는 앨범을, 그리고 이듬해인 2008년에 <Sol Latin Mood>를 발표하며 음악적인 유연함을 스스로 입증하기도 했다. 그의 실험은 여기서 멈추지 않는다. 그는 실제로 디제이와 함께 라이브 셋을 선보일 만큼 개방적이고 열정적인 사람이다. 마르코 모레지아(Marco Moreeggia)라는 전자음악가와 함께 2014년 버브에서 발표한 <Magic Susi>는 글리치, 딥하우스, 엠비언트, 트립합 등 다양한 장르의 전자음악 위에 트럼펫 연주를 얹은 작품이다. 일찍이 그가 2000년부터 블루노트에서 발표한 작품에 이미 깊이와 무게감이 더해져 있어, 새삼 그가 이른 나이부터 음악적으로 성숙했다는 것, 그리고 이런 시도들이 여전히 현재진행형이라는 점을 상기시켜 준다. 파브리치오 보소는 트리뷰트 앨범도 몇 장 발표했는데, 그 중 듀크 엘링턴(Duke Ellington)을 기리는 <Duke>와 90센티미터의 작지만 위대한 거장 미셀 페트루치아니(Michel Petrucciani)를 기리는 <Michel On Air> 두 장은 정말 낭만적이다. 파브리치오 보소 퀄텟이 이번 자라섬 무대에서 선보일 깊이 있는 새로운 시도가 기대된다.

However, he has other qualities and he is showing them in these last years, after his sparkling beginning, his desire of astonishing left space for poetry and virtuosity. Nowadays the Italian trumpeter is a wise artist who is capable of moving towards different directions.
Fabrizio Bosso started playing the trumpet at the age of 5. At the age of 15 he graduated in the conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi” of Turin. In 1999 he won the “Top Jazz” award (a referendum promoted by the magazine “Musica Jazz”) for the best new talent. In 2000 he published his first record: Fast Light. In 2002 the first record of the HIGH FIVE, Jazz For More, came out and many others followed it for the prestigious record label Blue Note. With the HIGH FIVE he also recorded Handful Of Souls, which led Mario Biondi to success. Featuring once again the HIGH FIVE he played for the first time with his own side project at the Blue Note of Tokyo, where he often returned conquering a broad and passionate audience.
Julian Oliver Mazzariello, one of the best Italian pianist of the last generations, Jacopo Ferrazza, a young double-bass player and the drummer Nicola Angelucci, are reliable members of the band. The repertoire consists of the trumpeter’s original tunes with some incursion in the great music of the jazz tradition but also improvisation; everything depends on the inspiration of the moment.
