올스타 라인업이 들려주는 화려하고 완벽한 호흡
현대 재즈계의 주요 기타리스트 중 한 명인 마이크 스턴이 자라섬을 찾아온다. 심지어 칙 코리아 일렉트릭 밴드(Chick Corea Elektric Band)의 일원이었던 Dave Weckl, 그래미 수상자이자 장르를 가리지 않는 트럼펫 거장 Randy Brecker, 어린 나이부터 디지 길레스피(Dizzy Gillespie)와 같은 거장들과 연주해온 Tom Kennedy 등 기라성 같은 아티스트들이 밴드 멤버로 함께할 예정이다. 마이크 스턴은 1980년대 초 마일스 데이비스 그룹(Miles Davis Group)에 합류하였고, 이후 잠시 자코 파스토리우스(Jaco Pastorius)와 함께 했으나 다시 마일스 데이비스에게로 돌아갔다. 당시 마약 중독 등으로 방황하던 그는 Randy Brecker의 형제인 마이클 브레커(Michael Brecker)를 비롯하여 여러 동료들의 도움으로 안정을 되찾을 수 있었고, 음악적으로도 성공을 거둘 수 있었다. 그는 80년대 중후반부터 리더로서 활동을 시작했으며, 이후 꾸준히 앨범을 발표하고 공연을 한 덕에 2009년 재즈 매거진 다운 비트(Down Beat)가 선정한 역사상 가장 훌륭한 기타리스트 75인에 이름을 올렸다. 블루스 음악의 영향으로 기타를 연주하게 된 이후 짐 홀(Jim Hall), 웨스 몽고메리(Wes Montgomery), 마일스 데이비스 등 재즈 거장들과 교류하면서, 마이크 스턴은 블루지한 동시에 재즈적인 깊은 터치가 돋보이는 기타 연주로 호평을 받고 있다.
함께 무대에 오를 Dave Weckl은 칙 코리아와 오랜 시간 호흡을 맞춘 만큼 재즈 퓨전에 강하며 마돈나(Madonna), 폴 사이먼(Paul Simon) 등 여러 팝 스타와 함께 작업하기도 했다. Randy Brecker 역시 재즈, 록, 알앤비를 모두 섭렵하며 자유자재의 퍼포먼스와 사운드스케이프 구성을 들려주는데, 호레이스 실버(Horace Silver)부터 아트 블레이키(Art Blakey), 프랭크 자파(Frank Zappa), 브루스 스프링스틴(Bruce Springsteen), 스티비 원더(Stevie Wonder) 등 그와 음악생활을 함께 했던 이들도 다양하다. 여기에 이들 세 사람 모두와 꾸준히 음악활동을 함께해온 Tom Kennedy까지 가세하여, 뛰어난 음악적 커리어를 지닌 이들 네 사람의 완벽한 호흡을 감상할 수 있을 것이다.

Mike Stern has distinguished himself over a four-decade career that has encompassed musical partnerships with Blood, Sweat & Tears, Billy Cobham, Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, the Brecker Brothers and Joe Henderson, as well as 16 recordings as a leader (six of which were nominated for GRAMMY Awards). An electrifying soloist whose blistering chops combine rock-fusion firepower with sophisticated jazz harmonies and his inherently bluesy string bending prowess, Stern has the ability to instantly elevate the proceedings on any gig or session he plays by channeling the spirits of his own personal guitar heroes Jimi Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall and Albert King.
His acclaimed 1993 release, Standards (And Other Songs), earned him the pick of Best Jazz Guitarist of the Year by the readers and critics of Guitar Player magazine. In 1997, he recorded Give And Take which helped Stern earn the Orville W. Gibson Award for Best Jazz Guitarist that year. At the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal in June 2007, Stern was honored with the Miles Davis Award. To celebrate DownBeat”s 75th anniversary, Stern was named to the venerable jazz magazine’s list of 75 all-time great jazz, blues and beyond guitarists. On January 21, 2012, Stern was awarded Guitar Player magazine’s Certified Legend Award. All Over the Place is Stern’s the latest recording on Heads Up International.
He will perform in Jarasum with Jazz trumpeter Randy Brecker, drummer Dave Weckl who is one of the great living drummers and bassist Tom Kennedy who ranks as one of the top acoustic and electric bass players in the world.
