55년의 역사가 증명하는 진정한 월드 클래스의 재즈 빅밴드
더 대니쉬 라디오 빅밴드는 1964년에 결성되어 올해로 55주년을 맞이하는 유서깊은 재즈 빅밴드이다. 덴마크 대중들에게 재즈를 널리 소개하기 위해 덴마크 라디오 방송사의 후원을 받아 New Radio Dance Orchestra라는 이름으로 창단한 이래, 수많은 재즈 거장들이 더 대니쉬 라디오 빅밴드의 솔로이스트로, 때론 지휘자로 함께 무대에 올랐으며, 지난 2010년에는 록의 전설, 롤링 스톤즈(Rolling Stones)의 드러머 찰리 왓츠(Charlie Watts)와도 협연하는 등 폭넓은 활동을 이어나가고 있다.
더 대니쉬 라디오 빅밴드는 1970년대 말 트럼페터 태드 존스(Thad Jones)가 지휘를 맡으면서 서서히 활동 무대를 유럽 전역으로 넓혀 나가기 시작했고, 이때부터 디지 길레스피(Dizzy Gillespie), 클락 테리(Clark Terry), 지미 히스(Jimmy Heath), 프레디 허바드(Freddie Hubbard), 아트 파머(Art Farmer) 등 당대를 대표하던 수많은 연주자들과 함께 재즈의 역사를 써내려갔다.
50여 년이 넘는 긴 세월에도 불구하고 더 대니쉬 라디오 빅밴드는 과거의 영광에 안주하지 않고, 윈튼 마살리스(Wynton Marsalis), 마이크 스턴(Mike Stern), 랜디 브레커(Randy Brecker), 커티스 스티거(Curtis Stiger), 크리스 포터(Chris Potter), 리차드 보나(Richard Bona) 등 동시대의 재즈 연주자들과 함께 꾸준히 무대에 오르고 앨범을 발표하고 있다. 최근에는 신예 재즈 작곡가이자 지휘자인 미호 하자마(Miho Hazama)를 빅밴드의 수석 지휘자로 발탁하는 파격적인 행보를 보여주기도 했다.
현재 더 대니쉬 라디오 빅밴드는 덴마크 출신으로 미국에서 활동하고 있는 마릴린 마주르(Marilyn Mazur)와 함께 투어 중이다. 마일스 데이비스(Miles Davis) 밴드에서 연주하기도 했던 재즈 퍼커션의 마스터 마릴린 마주르가 솔로이스트로 나서고, 미호 하자마가 수석 지휘자로서 첫 지휘를 맡게될 더 대니쉬 라디오 빅밴드의 자라섬재즈페스티벌 무대는 그 자리에 함께할 관객들과 함께 재즈 역사의 새로운 페이지를 장식할 예정이다.

The percussionist and composer Marilyn Mazur is an icon in both the Danish and international jazz world. She has performed and recorded along with stars like Miles Davis, Jan Gabarek and Wayne Shorter, and in Denmark she is known for her long-standing collaborations with jazz legends like NHØP and Palle Mikkelborg.
This unique evening brings you exclusively close to Marilyn Mazur - both as an incomparable percussion equilibrist and an original and exciting composer. As a special treat, the Danish Radio Big Band has asked the Norwegian Helge Sunde to arrange a collection of Marilyn’s best compositions, and the band has also challenged the Danish-American legend by ordering a whole new piece.
