누구에게나 주저 없이 권할 수 있는 우리 시대의 재즈 보컬리스트
2009년, 도전적이고 진취적인 1집 앨범 [Her, So Young & Old] 발매와 재즈피플 라이징스타에 선정되면서 본격적으로 국내 재즈씬에서 존재감을 나타내기 시작한 보컬리스트 허소영은 올해로 첫 앨범을 발매한 지 딱 10년을 맞이한다. 격변하는 국내 재즈씬에서 재즈의 전통에 충실하며 본인만의 호흡과 속도로 음악 활동을 펼쳐왔으며, 재즈 스탠다드 레퍼토리 중심의 앨범을 지속적으로 발매, 2013년에 발표한 2집 앨범 [THAT’S ALL]은 탁월한 라이브 실력과 대중 친화적인 느낌으로 재즈팬들과 평단으로부터 큰 사랑과 호평을 받기도 하였다. 그리고 이 앨범의 연장선상으로 2018년 11월에 발매한 3집 앨범 [B.B.B]는 제8회 서울레코드페어에서 최초공개반으로 소개, 2시간만에 완판되는 등 허소영의 인기를 새삼 실감케하였다. 2,3집 앨범은 모두 드럼이 없는 소위 냇킹콜 트리오 편성의 음반으로, 보컬리스트 허소영의 목소리를 좀 더 세밀하고 아름답게 들을 수 있는 장점을 지니고 있다. 특유의 멜로우한 보이스로 재즈의 전통에 충실하면서도 누가 들어도 좋아할 보편적인 매력을 지닌 허소영, 그녀는 국내 재즈씬에서 아마 오랜 팬층을 확보하며 사랑 받고 있는 몇 안되는 아티스트이기도 할 것이다.
올해 자라섬재즈에서는 그녀의 앞선 작업과는 사뭇 다른 음악적 행보를 보여줄 계획이다. 우선 2집 이후 지속해왔던 드럼리스 사운드에서 벗어나 피아노, 베이스, 드럼이 함께 하는 새로운 앙상블을 처음으로 선보인다. 이 앙상블은 오랜 시간 재즈클럽에서 합을 맞춘 재즈 피아니스트 곽정민과 핫한 스윙 뮤지션인 베이시스트 신동하와 드러머 김민찬이 함께 하며, 타이트한 앙상블을 통해 기존 구성과는 또 다른 보컬 재즈의 아름다움과 스윙의 흥겨움, 비밥의 긴장감을 선보일 예정이다. 또, 무엇보다 이번 공연에서는 그녀의 한국적인 재즈에 대한 오랜 고민들을 한국어 가사로 녹여낸 새로운 자작곡을 처음으로 들을 수 있는 귀한 시간이 될 것이다. (*이 곡들은 올해와 내년을 거쳐 추후 앨범으로도 발매될 예정이다)

In 2009, vocalist Heo So Young, who began to show her presence in the domestic jazz scene, when her first album [Her, So Young & Old] was selected as a Jazz People Rising Star. For 10 years, at the upheaval of domestic jazz scenes, she has been faithful to the tradition of jazz and has performed her own music at her own pace. She has received great love and praise from jazz fans and critics for her second album [THAT’S ALL] in 2013 with talented live performance and public-friendly feeling. As an extension of this album, the 3rd album [B.B.B] released in November 2018 was introduced as the first public at the 8th Seoul Record Fair and sold out in 2 hours. The 2nd and 3rd albums are all drum-less recordings of the so-called Nat King Cole Trio style, which has the advantage of listening to the voice of the vocalist Heo So Young more precisely and beautifully. Heo So Young is a unique mellow voice that is faithful to the tradition of jazz and has a universal appeal that anyone will love. She is probably one of the few artists who is loved by securing a long-time fan base in the domestic jazz scene.
In this year's Jarasum Jazz, she plans to show a musical step different from her previous work. First of all, it will be the first to release a new ensemble with piano, bass, and drums. The tight ensemble will showcase the beauty of the vocal jazz, the excitement of the swing, and the tension of bebop. The ensemble is a combination of jazz pianist Kwak Jung Min, who has joined the jazz club for a long time, and hot swing musician bassist Shin Dong Ha and drummer Kim Min Chan. In addition, this time, it will be a precious time to listen to the new self-composed song that melted her long agony about Korean jazz in Korean lyrics.
