매 순간 진보하며 날카로운 카리스마를 과시하는 드러머, 서수진
현재 한국 재즈씬에서 독보적인 입지를 자랑하며 활발한 연주 활동을 펼치고 있는 여성 드러머가 있다. 바로 ECM에서 앨범을 발매한 Near East Quartet의 드러머이자, 서수진 코드리스 퀄텟의 리더인 서수진이다.
뛰어난 연주와 감각적인 드러밍으로 수많은 재즈뮤지션들의 사랑을 받고 있으며,
동시에 자신의 밴드를 이끌며 리더 및 작곡가로서도 꾸준한 활동을 펼치고 있다.
그녀는 2015년과 2018년 본인의 자작곡이 수록된 두 장의 앨범을 발매하였는데, 2집 앨범
<Strange Liberation>에 수록된 ‘겨울에 피는 꽃’은 2018년 International Songwriting Competition 에서 3위를 수상하기도 하였다.
올해 2019 자라섬재즈페스티벌에서는 드러머 서수진을 중심으로 네 명의 완벽한 연주자들이
모였다. 이들은 서수진이 2018년 발표한 정규 2집 [Strange Libration] 앨범 수록곡들을
위주로 연주할 계획이다. 본래 이 앨범은 그녀의 코드리스 퀄텟 (Chordless Quartet)
즉 화성악기를 배제한 편성으로 녹음 되었지만 이번 공연에서는 특별히 피아노에 강재훈이
합류해서 앨범에서 들을 수 있었던 소리와는 전혀 색다르고 대조된 사운드를 들려주고자 한다.
알토색소폰에는 언제나 에너지 넘치고 유려한 멜로딕 센스와 다이나믹을 구사하는
고단열이 함께하고, 베이스에는 모든 멤버들의 개성 있는 소리들을 유기적으로 연결시켜주는
탄탄한 사운드의 김영후가 함께한다. 같은 곡 다른 사운드를 비교하며 들을 수 있는 특별한 무대가

A drummer who shows off her sharp charisma every step of the way, Soo Jin Suh
Currently, there is a female drummer who boasts a unique position in the Korean
jazz scene and is actively performing. She is Soo Jin Suh, the drummer of Near East
Quartet, who released the album on ECM, and the leader of Suh Soo Jin Chordless
Quartet. She has been loved by many jazz musicians for her outstanding performa
nces and sensual drums, and she is also leading her own band as a leader and com
poser. She released two albums of her own by 2015 and 2018, and the piece ‘Narci
ssus’ of second album [Strange Liberation], won the 3rd prize in the International
Songwriting Competition in 2018.
At the Jarasum Jazz Festival in 2019, four perfect musicians gathered around
drummer Suh Soo Jin. They are planning to perform mainly the music from her
second album [Strange Libration] released in 2018. Originally this album was
recorded with chordless quartet, without harmonic instruments, but in this
performance, Kang Jaehun joins the piano in particular to give a completely
different and contrasting sound to the music you could hear on the album.
The alto saxophonist Go Daniel who is always energetic and paying with full of
melodic sense, and bassist Kim Young hoo, who gathers unique sounds of each
performer with solid play. It will be a special stage where you can hear and
compare different sounds of the same music. Strongly recommended to listen
