단단한 사운드를 지닌 당찬 신예 색소포니스트, 송하철
초등학교 시절 클라리넷을 시작으로 처음 색소폰을 접하게 된 송하철은 중학교 2학년, 당시 나이 15세에 재즈 색소폰에 입문하였다. 이후 그는 1년 만에 기본 교육 과정을 모두 수료한 뒤 경희대 포스트모던음악학과에 최연소 입학하게 된다. 대학생활을 서두로 연주 활동을 시작한 송하철은 차츰 그 활동을 넓혀가며 2014년 ‘영창 뮤직 콩쿨’ 우수상을 수상한다. 이후 재즈피아니스트 전용준의 1.2 집 앨범에 참여함으로써 본격적인 활동을 시작하였다. 이듬해인 2015년 재즈 전문 매거진 재즈 피플의 ‘라이징 스타' 로 선정되어 많은 뮤지션들 사이에 화두가 되었으며, <자라섬국제재즈페스티벌>, <EBS SPACE 공감> 등 다양한 무대를 통해 인정받는 신예 아티스트이자 동시에 당찬 프로페셔널 연주자로 자리매김 하였다.
꾸준한 연주활동을 바탕으로 2017년 송하철은 송하철 퀄텟으로 자신의 오리지널 곡으로 이루어진 리더작 [Straight Life]을 발매하기에 이른다. 이 앨범에는 색소포니스트 송하철의 소소한 삶 이야기들과 더불어 고뇌하는 신예 아티스트의 당찬 포부와 노력이 담겨져 있다. 한편 송하철 퀄텟은 색소포니스트 송하철을 주축으로 하여 재즈 피아니스트 임채선, 베이시스트 이동민, 드러머 서수진이 함께 하며 앨범 발매 이후 계속적인 연주활동을 펼치고 있다. 멤버들간의 파워풀하고 섬세한 조화가 매우 인상적인 퀄텟이다. 올해 자라섬에서는 앨범에 수록된 오리지널 곡들을 바탕으로 하여 색소포니스트 송하철의 진솔한 삶의 이야기가 담긴 음악을 선보일 예정이며, 재즈피아니스트 임채선 대신 전용준이 함께 한다.
A rookie saxophonist with solid sound, Song Hachul
Hachul Song, who first met the saxophone starting the clarinet in elementary school, started the jazz saxophone in the second year of junior high school, at the age of 15. After completing all the basic courses in a year, he entered the Post-modern Music Department. as the youngest student ever. Hachul Song who started his career in college life, gradually expanded his activities and won the <Young Chang Music Concurs> Excellence Prize in 2014. Since then, he has started full-scale activity by participating in jazz pianist Jung Jun's 1.2th album. In the following year, he was chosen as the <Rising Star> of jazz specialist magazine ‘Jazz People’ in the year 2015, and became a center of attention among many musicians. He was a new artist recognized by various stages such as <Jarasum International Jazz Festival> and <EBS Space> He became a professional musician.
Based on his steady performance, Hachul Song released his own original music album [Straight Life] as a leader of Song Hachul Quartet in 2017. This album contains Song’s small life stories of the saxophonist, and the aspirations and efforts of a new artist who is struggling. On the other hand, Song Hachul Quartet is consist of a saxophonist Hachul Song as the leader, accompanied by jazz pianist Chaesun Im, bassist Dongmin Lee and drummer Soojin Suh. The powerful and delicate harmony between the members is very impressive. On this year's Jarasum, based on the original music from the album, the team will be performing the music of Song’s truthful life. This time, jazz pianist Yongjun Chon will be performing together instead of Im.
