자라섬재즈페스티벌 15주년과 가왕 조용필 선생의 데뷔 50주년을 기념하기 위해 탄생한 스페셜 프로젝트 <JAZZ MEETS 조용필>
자라섬 메인스테이지에 선보이는 “자라섬재즈라지앙상블 <Jazz Meets 조용필>” 프로젝트는 올해로 15주년을 맞이한 자라섬재즈페스티벌이 한국대중음악사에서 절대적인 존재로 불리는 가왕 조용필 선생의 데뷔 50주년을 기념하기 위해 준비한 스페셜 프로젝트이다. 기존 조용필 선생의 유명 곡들을 재즈 연주자들이 편곡을 통해 재즈적인 어법으로 재해석한 새로운 음악을 선보이고자 한다. 본 프로젝트는 자라섬재즈페스티벌 사무국과 국내 재즈 전문 월간지 재즈피플의 김광현 편집장이 함께 공동 기획하였으며, ‘자라섬라지재즈앙상블’ 역시 이 공연을 위해 특별히 구성된 팀이다.
자라섬라지재즈앙상블은 국내에서 큰 두각을 나타내고 있는 대표적인 두 재즈 앙상블인 오재철 라지 앙상블의 오재철과 이지연 컨템포러리 재즈오케스트라의 이지연이 주축이 되어 13인조 형태로 본 프로젝트를 위해 구성되었다. 두 리더는 평소 고전적인 빅밴드와는 다른 음악을 추구하며, 본인들의 색채가 뚜렷한 음악작업으로 재즈씬에서도 큰 주목을 받아왔다. 이지연은 음악적 상상력이 아주 풍부한 작곡가로 섬세한 편곡과 세밀한 음악으로 우아한 빅밴드 사운드를 만들어내며, 오재철은 전통적인 빅밴드의 스윙감이 아닌 모던하면서도 드라마틱한 편곡과 연주로 또 다른 느낌의 빅밴드 사운드를 연출한다. 이번 자라섬 무대에서는 조용필 선생의 히트곡 중 6곡을 엄선하였으며, 두 리더의 뚜렷한 음악적 색채가 담긴 편곡으로 다채로운 음악적 질감과 색채감을 느낄 수 있는 음악을 관객들에게 선사할 예정이다. 올해 자라섬 무대에서만 볼 수 있는 이 스페셜 한 무대를 절대 놓치지 말자.
"Jarasumjazz Large Ensemble <Jazz Meets Cho Yung Phil> is a special project prepared to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the debut of the Korean composer King of Music, Cho Yong Phil, who is said to be an absolute presence in Korean popular music history. The stage will present a new music that reinterprets the famous songs of Mr. Cho Yong Phil as a jazz-like phrase through arranging jazz players. The project was jointly organized by the Jarasum International Jazz Festival Secretariat and editor-in-chief Kim Kwang-hyun of the jazz magazine monthly magazine ‘Jazz People’, also Jarasumjazz Large Ensemble is specially oraganized for this project.
Jarasumjazz Large Ensemble is composed of two representative jazz ensembles, Oh Jae-cheol Large Ensemble and Lee Ji-yeon Contemporary Jazz Orchestra. The two leaders are pursuing music that is different from the usual big bands, and they have attracted a great deal of attention in the jazz scene with their distinctive music work. Lee Ji-yeon is a composer with a rich musical imagination. It creates elegant big band sound with fine arrangement and fine music. Oh Jae-cheol does not have the traditional big band's sense of swing but modern and dramatic arranging and playing. In this stage of Jarasum, the project selected 6 songs from Cho Yong Phil's, and the two leaders will give music to the audience with various musical texture and color feeling by arrangement with distinctive musical colors.
