<2018 빅밴드 배틀>은 빅밴드 시리즈 공연의 일환으로 작년부터 새롭게 진행된 자라섬재즈만의 기획 프로그램이다. 두 개의 빅밴드가 배틀 형식으로 진행하는 공연으로, 관객들에게 다채로운 음악적 경험을 선사한다. 국내에서는 거의 보기 힘든 대편성 형태로, 두 빅밴드가 동시에 무대에 올라 화려하고 풍성한 사운드를 들려주며, 이와 동시에 빅밴드 간 펼치는 연주 배틀은 보는 이들에게 긴장감과 재미를 함께 안겨준다. 작년 페스티벌 라운지 무대에서 진행되었던 빅밴드 배틀은 관객들에게 큰 호평을 받았으며, 올해 역시 자라섬에서만 볼 수 있는 결코 놓치지 말아야 하는 공연 중 하나일 것이다. 이번 빅밴드 배틀의 주인공은 10년 이상의 정통을 갖고 있는 서울예대 빅밴드와 실용음악계의 새로운 명문학교로 자리 잡은 호원대학교 재즈 빅밴드이다.

우리나라 1호 대학 빅밴드인 서울예대 빅밴드는 정중화 교수의 지휘 및 편곡으로 팝, 재즈, 라틴 등 여러 장르의 음악을 선보이며 대중과의 소통을 시도하고 있는 빅밴드이다. 이 빅밴드는 10년 이상의 역사와 전통을 자랑하며, 14회 자라섬재즈페스티벌 무대에서도 수준 높은 연주를 선보인바 있다. 올해 자라섬 무대에서는 00인조 구성의 빅밴드로 탄탄한 보컬 군단을 앞세워 호원대학교 재즈 빅밴드와 함께 멋진 배틀 연주를 선보일 예정이다.

호원대학교 재즈 빅밴드

국내 각종 오디션 프로그램을 휩쓸며 실용음악계의 새로운 명문학교로 자리 잡은 호원대학교 빅밴드는 색소포니스트 손성제의 지휘 아래 2010년 창단되었다. 라틴, 펑크, 팝, 영화음악 등 다양하고 친숙한 레퍼토리로 크고 작은 무대에서 활발한 공연을 펼치고 있으며, 제 10회, 12회, 14회 자라섬국제재즈페스티벌 무대에 초청되기도 하였다. 올해 자라섬 무대에서는 호원대학교의 강력한 브라스 군단을 앞세워 서울예대 빅밴드와 함께 긴장감 있는 연주 배틀을 선보일 예정이다.
<2018 Big Band Battle> is a program of Jarasum Jazz which was newly performed from last year as a part of big band series performance. Two big bands perform in battle format, giving the audience a colorful musical experience. In the form of a large scale rarely seen in Korea, two big bands simultaneously come to the stage to give a colorful and rich sound. At the same time, the bands that play between the big bands give tension and fun to the viewers. The big band battle, which was held at the Festival Lounge last year, has been well received by audiences, and this year it will be one of the performances that should not be missed in Jarasum. The main character of this big band battle is Howon University Jazz Big Band which has become a new prestigious school of Seoul Institute of the Art Big Band and practical music world with more than 10 years authenticity.

SEOUL INSTITUTE OF THE ARTS BIG BAND

The Seoul Big Band is the big band that is trying to communicate with the public by showing various genres of music such as pop, jazz, and Latin by conducting and arranging professor Jung, Joong Hwa. This big band has more than 10 years of history and tradition, and has performed well at the 14th Jarasum International Jazz Festival Jazz Festival. In this year's Jarasum stage, a big bands composed of 00 members will be showing off a good battle performance with a strong vocal legion and Howon University Jazz Big Band.

HOWON UNIVERSITY JAZZ BIG BAND

Howon University's big band, which has become a new prestigious school in the practical music world, swept through various audition programs in Korea and was established in 2010 under the direction of saxophonist Son, Soongjae. The band is actively performing on large and small stages with a variety of familiar repertoires including Latin, punk, pop, and movie music. The Big Band has also been invited to the 10th, 12th, and 14th Jarasum International Jazz Festival Stages. In this year's Jarasum stage, we will show a tense playing battle with the Seoul Institute of the Art Big Band with the strong brass legion of Howon University.
