캐나다 퀘벡 출신의 베이스 연주자 알랭 베다르는 1980년대부터 연주자 겸 작곡가로 활동하고 있는 아티스트로, 1999년에 Effendi라는 자신의 레이블을 설립하여 지금까지 무려 144장 이상의 앨범을 제작했으며, 2003년에 창단한 Effendi Jazzlab 오케스트라의 예술 감독이자 단원으로 활동하는 등 퀘벡 재즈씬의 중견 아티스트로 인정받고 있다. 그리고 그가 20년 넘게 이끌고 있는 오귀스트 퀄텟은 정통 컨템포러리 스타일의 재즈 앙상블로, 콘트라베이스와 피아노, 색소폰, 드럼의 구성으로 재즈 퀄텟의 기본에 충실한 안정되고 기품있는 음악을 들려준다. 지금까지 그의 오귀스트 퀄텟이 발표한 음반은 단 네 장뿐이지만, 매년 전세계 대형 재즈 페스티벌을 비롯하여 수많은 투어를 돌며 활발한 활동을 하고 있다. 알랭 베다르의 오랜 경험과 연륜이 배어 있는 오귀스트 퀄텟의 음악은, 차분함 속에서도 창의적인 곡 해석을 통해 들으면 들을수록 더욱 새로운 감상을 선사한다.

Alain Bédard began his professional career in the 1980s, when he naturally integrated some various Quebec formations of the time. He participated in various major events around the world and those events provided fascinating experiences to Alain. He worked with DADJE(Senegal-Quebec group), Martinique dancer Josianne Antourel, Marc Denis at the University of Quebec in Montreal and violinist Martin Foster(member of the UQAM Chamber Music Orchestra) and with a variety of jazz groups in Quebec and international artists including Jazzlab Orchestra, Pascal Shumacher and many more.

Alain Bédard also continues an interesting career with his own jazz quartet Auguste Quartet. This season 2016-2017, the group will celebrate its 20th anniversary of its debut. As well in order to celebrate the launch of the 5th album <Circum Continuum>(2015), Auguste would like to highlight a new formation with which he will give concerts across Quebec and abroad. Alain Bédard himself is also an artistic director and musician Jazzlab Orchestra, which was founded in 2003 and is recognized as one of the leading bands of Canadian jazz. He is also founder of the Effendi label active since 1999 and has published 144 albums.
