리투아니아 출신의 피아니스트이자 작곡가인 다이니우스 풀라우스카스에 의해 1996년에 결성된 이 6인조 그룹은, 다이니우스 풀라우스카스 섹텟(Sextet)으로도 불린다. 흔히 유럽의 재즈 연주자들에게서 기대할 수 있는 서정적인 연주 그 이상의 힘있는 연주를 들려주는 다이니우스 풀라우스카스 그룹은, 전자음악과 록 사운드를 재즈와 접목하여 퓨전재즈 스타일의 음악을 구현하는 동시에, 타자기를 연주에 응용하는 등 실험적인 퍼포먼스를 보여주면서 화제를 모았다. 첫 앨범 <Penetration>(1997)의 성공으로 단숨에 리투아니아 재즈계 정상에 오른 이들은, 2001년에는 리투아니아 뮤지션 조합으로부터, 높은 판매량을 보인 앨범에만 수여하는 골드 디스크를 재즈 앨범 사상 최초로 받았고, 동시에 올해의 앨범상도 수상하는 저력을 보여주며 지금까지도 여전히 정상의 자리를 지키고 있다. 이들은 리투아니아에서뿐만 아니라 국외에서도 높은 인기와 인지도를 지니고 있는 탓에, 리투아니아 재즈를 대표한다는 의미로 ‘리투아니아 재즈 사절’이라는 별명도 가지고 있다. 프로그레시브 퓨전 재즈라고 할 수 있는 이들의 음악은, 다이니우스 풀라우스카스가 연주하는 신서사이저 사운드가 음악의 전체 분위기를 이끌어가는 가운데, 트럼펫과 색소폰 등 브라스 섹션이 강렬한 비트와 멜로디를 더하고, 베이스와 드럼이 탄탄하게 리듬을 받쳐주는 웅장하고 화려한 스타일이 특징이다. 이러한 이유로 ‘멜로디와 힘이 적절하게 조화를 이루었다’라는 평가를 받고 있으며, 다이니우스 풀라우스카스와 발레리 라모카, 리나스 부다 등 오랜기간 자신의 자리에서 훌륭한 연주를 들려주는 원년 멤버들 덕분에 ‘유럽 퓨전재즈의 선봉에 서서 굳건히 자리를 지키고 있다’라는 평가도 받고 있다. 올해로 데뷔 20주년을 맞이한 이들은, 지금도 전세계를 돌며 투어를 다니고 있으며, 늘 지치지 않는 열정으로 새로운 무대를 선보이고 있다.

Dainius Pulauskas Group was formed in 1996 and instantly became one of the most influential and leading Lithuanian jazz units and an internationally renowned ambassador of Lithuanian jazz. In his article portal ‘All About Jazz’, Jazz critic Jan Patterson described this group as “The Dainius Pulauskas Group is a unique sextet whose mixture of melody and muscle, lyricism and the unexpected, places it firmly at the forefront of progressive European jazz-fusion.” and the group leader is characterized as “pianist/keyboardist Pulauskas is without a doubt, one of the most interesting composers at the fusion end of European jazz, and has been at the helm of this sextet for seventeen years”.

After starting in 1996 at the Birštonas Jazz Festival, in 1997 they released a debut album <Penetration>. Dainius Pulauskas Group has beaten all local records by rising to the hall of fame of Lithuanian jazz in an amazingly short time. During the years of its existence they participated in many prestigious European, Asian, African and American jazz festivals. The main festivals London Jazz Festival (UK), Izmir European Jazz Festival (Turkey), Tokyo Jazz Festival (Japan), Bohemia Jazz Festival (Czech Republic) and more. To recognize their achievement, the Lithuanian Musicians' Union awarded the group with the Golden Disc in 2001. In 2004 the group received the LT Identity award of the Lithuanian Institute for promoting Lithuanian jazz.
