스웨덴의 재즈 피아니스트 다니엘 칼손은 90년대 중반 프레드릭 노리엔(Fredrik Norén) 밴드로 활동을 시작한 중견 연주자로, 북유럽의 뉴재즈(Nu-Jazz)씬에서 활동하고 있다. 프레드릭 노리엔은 스웨덴의 전설적인 드럼 연주자로, 다니엘 칼손을 비롯하여 에스뵈욘 스벤손(Esbjörn Svensson) 등 수많은 실력 있는 연주자들이 그의 밴드를 거쳐갔기 때문에 스웨덴의 아트 블레키(Art Blakey)라고도 불린다. 다니엘 칼손은 이후 오드잡(Oddjob)이라는 그룹을 결성하여 활동을 시작했는데, 유럽 내에서 큰 성공을 거두면서 앨범 <Oddjob>으로 스웨덴 음악 시상식인 그래미스(Grammis)에서 2003년 올해의 재즈 앨범상을 수상하기도 했다. 다니엘 칼손 트리오는 그의 또 다른 앙상블로, 트리오 구성이지만 혼자서 피아노와 신서사이저, 그리고 60년대에 사용되던 빈티지 신서사이저인 멜로트론을 동시에 연주함으로써, 독특한 기계음 효과로 몽환적인 사운드를 연출한다. 색다른 피아노 트리오 연주를 기대한다면 절대 놓쳐선 안될 무대이다.

The Daniel Karlsson Trio has, since their album debut <Das Taxibåt> in September 2013, established themselves as one of the most interesting constellations in Swedish jazz. Not least through the magnificent hat trick brought home by their sophomore release <Fusion for Fish>, released in August 2014. The album ended up winning them the Swedish Radio’s jazz group of the year Award 2014, Swedish jazz magazine OJ’s Golden Disc 2015 as well as the Swedish Jazz Grammy of 2015. Ears have been opened abroad as well, their music met with press accolades and frequent airplay in Germany, but also in the UK and Ireland.
On their third album <at the Feel Free Falafel>(2016), there’s also a new member in the band. Double bass player Kristian Lind has moved to Turkey and has been replaced by his namesake Christian Spering, an outstanding musician and an exceptionally well known name for those in the know of the Swedish jazz scene. As always the new album contain a collection of exciting original compositions by Daniel Karlsson. Nine new songs with a more or less are pronounced theme of food apparent in the song titles.
