The 8th Jarasum International Jazz Concours

Jarasum International Jazz Concours, started in 2007, become a leading musical scene where the stream of present and future Korean Jazz flows by introducing artists who show ground breaking music. So far, Jarasum International Jazz Concours mainly has focused on selecting artists who play unique and creative music. The winner will be given an opportunity to appearing on the opening stage of Jarasum International Jazz Festival and a prize of ten million won. We ask for continuous interest and participation of artists who will enrich Korean jazz scene with astonishing musicianship.

All Koreans and internationals who can play instruments or sing (No restriction to instruments)

Dates and venue of both semi-final and final round could be reorganized due to circumstances.

How to apply and Process
Required Documents
  • 1) Application Form : Download an application at Jarasum International Jazz Festival Official website (www.jarasumjazz.com)
  • 2) One(1) photo (3x4 size) : Attach 1 photo on the application form
  • 3) Two(2) DEMO CDs [MP3] * Must follow the required file format
    - Attach labels including your name, orders and titles of music on the front of the CDs.
  • All submitted documents will not be returned. All performers supplying fraudulent information will be disqualified and will be excluded from the competition. Also in case you are awarded at the final, prizes could be canceled.

Application Fee

Application fee : 50,000 Won(KRW)

  • The application fee must not be sent later than July 20, 2016 (Wed) 17:00. Any application submitted without the application fee will be utomatically cancelled.
  • The name of who send application fee must be the same as the name on application.
  • The application fee is not refundable under any circumstances.
Process
Preliminary Round

Closed screening DEMO CD of 3 pieces of music including one required repertoire, two songs of free choice. (one must be original composition piece) All 3 pieces should be played within 20 minutes.

Semi-Final Round

10 post-screened competitors should play within 20 minutes. We don’t care about the number of song, but should include one required repertoire and one original composition piece.

Final Round

4 semi-finalists should play within 30 minutes. We don’t care about the number of song, but should include one required repertoire and one original

Notes
  1. Participants are required to present more than one original composition piece (must be participant’s own composition, not a co-written piece or a piece of others) during the preliminary, semi-final and final rounds.
  2. Pieces can be repeated through all rounds.
  3. Semi-finalists must resubmit lists of pieces and players; it may not be changed later.
  4. The number of semi-finalists and finalists can vary according to evaluation results.
  5. The original composition piece must not have been published on- and off-line. It must be a pure creation of participants.

Notes
  • Musical instruments or formations are not restricted.
  • All pieces are not restricted in any style but must be based on Jazz.
  • Applicants must organize own sessions for the semi-final and final rounds.
  • All three pieces in DEMO CD for the preliminary round should be MP3 file format. First piece must be a required repertoire, followed by an original composition piece and, lastly, song of free choice.
  • Semi-finalists must resubmit lists of pieces and players; it may not be changed later.
  • All plyers (in case of group, including all session players) of semi-final and final rounds must be same.
